At a young age, I knew I wanted to become an engineer like my father. Although my father was a civil engineer, I pursued a degree in biomedical engineering due to inspiration from science fiction movies like Robocop. I was fascinated with the idea of using technology to enhance the human ability.

 

In 2014, my junior year at the University of Delaware, I got the opportunity to work in a prosthetic clinic. Through interactions with the patients at the clinic, I was exposed to the mental and physical pain that came with limb loss. Specifically, I was exposed to the issue of phantom limb pain, an incurable condition that affects 80% of the amputee community.

 

To better understand the problem and help this community, I interviewed people in the amputee community, including amputees and their physicians. This led to the development of the TheraV ELIX pain management device.

 

The glamour of the prosthetic space attracts many engineers and entrepreneurs alike. Unfortunately, with the limited resources available to the amputee community, the financial struggles of limb loss, and the stigma tied to pain in a limb that is no longer there, many amputees suffer in silence. This is the non-glamours part of amputation care. Hearing the personal stories and struggles of amputees living in pain motivated me to take a leap of faith to address this problem.

 

I founded TheraV in 2016 with a mission to transform amputation therapy and rehabilitation by creating drug-free solutions that improve the quality of life of amputees.
